Ashwhisker gently batted down her son, Coalkit, as she turned to leave the nursery. She hadn’t been up and moving too much since she had given birth to her 5 kits, but she was allowed walks around the camp. The small gray tom mewed in protest as she fixed him with her blue eyes, “Calm down, Coalkit, and stay inside the nursery.”
Sootkit wandered up next to her brother and joined in the protest, “But Mom, we just want to walk around camp! Why won’t you let us come with you!” Ashwhisker shook her head, she knew perfectly why she was keeping her kits confined to the nursery, and it was Hazekit. She worried constantly about him getting snatched by a Hawk or getting lost. Still, she would never voice this worry around her kits and make Hazekit feel like an outcast. “You can’t because I said you couldn’t.” she mewed firmly, “Now go play, and maybe when I come back I’ll try to bring your father with me.”
The idea of a visit from Littlestorm cheered the two whining kits and they permitted Ashwhisker to leave the nursery without much more protest. However, once their mother was gone Sootkit stormed to the corner of the nursery. “You know it’s because of deafy here we can’t leave right? We never can do anything because precious Hazekit could get hurt.” Her words were intended for Coalkit, but Hazekit was the one who fixed her with a glare. “I-I ca-an read-d lips you m-moron.” He mewed in his scratchy and unstable voice.
Sootkit just turned so her maw was facing away from her deaf brother and mewed “I know.” with a wicked smile. Coalkit just shrugged. He too felt the burden of having Hazekit as a sibling, but it didn’t bug him too much. They could play all the games they wanted in the nursery, and Hazekit was never too much of a drag. He didn’t really understand the animosity between his little brother and sister.
To try and put a halt to the tension he called out to his other brothers, Falconkit and Sprucekit, “Hey guys! Wanna play a game?” His dark gray tail waved enthusiastically as the thought of a good Rogue vs. OakClan game spread into his mind.

Falconkit was sitting comfortably at his mother's paws in their plush moss nest, casually licking his gray dappled paw and then bringing it to his ear, cleaning it. He cast a weary glance upon Ashwhisker but did not say a thing as she stepped out of the nest and made her way out of the nursery, leaving her five kits behind. He glanced at Hazekit when his other siblings mentioned him, but returned back to his complex grooming system. He had to tend to his ears first, then his face, then his legs, then his flank...
'Hey guys! Wanna play a game?' Uh no, not really, he had to look his best. Falconkit sighed. This was going to take awhile. He might as well give it up and wait for Ashwhisker to come back and take care of it for him. Yes, that was what he would do! Put the responsibility on someone else!
"Sure." Falconkit meowed, streching his forepaws over the edge of the nest.
"And what would you have in mind for our little game?" He meowed pointedly, then giving his forepaw one final lick.

White ears pricked, and big pale blue eyes blinked open, swiveling sightlessly around. Swankit's tail twitched, picking up the last part of her den-mates conversation.
You know it’s because of deafy here we can’t leave right? We never can do anything because precious Hazekit could get hurt. Sootkit complained. Swankit winced, feeling her friends pain. Hazekit's sister seemed to hate him because of the disability he couldn't control.
I-I ca-an read-d lips you m-moron. Hazekit chocked out, stuttering over the words he couldn't hear.
Swankit frowned as Sootkit laughed cruelly. "I know" she said.
Hey guys! Wanna play a game? Coatkit asked, presumably to his other siblings, Falconkit and Sprucekit.
"Sure. And what would you have in mind for our little game?" Falconkit asked. Swankit stood then, wanting to be included. She was friends with Ashwhisker's kits, and liked playing with them, seeing as her disability didn't exactly stop her from playing with her friends; her other senses were better than most other kits.
Can I play too? the she-kit asked, padding toward the voices to stand a few mouse lengths from Coalkit, tail twitching.
