A pair of emerald eyes stared out from a particularly overgrown patch of grass. Ibispaw’s black and white body was hidden from sight as his eyes bored across the DustClan border. After several silent moments he stood, he would not be caught spying on another Clan.
It was midday, and the sun was shining brightly. Wildflowers were tousled lightly in the wind, and the grass was soft and a healthy shade of green. Clouds dotted the sky, adding a bit more beauty to the meadow. However, all the scenery was lost on Ibispaw. Thoughts of power and battle swarmed through his head, and instead of seeing the meadow as a happy place, he was staring at it tactically, imagining best how to maneuver in a fight if one were to take place here.
He probably was supposed to be out with Bearheart, not that he cared much about his mentor these days. Bearheart may be Hawkstar’s son, but he was not truly important to the apprentice. No matter what, having the leader’s son as a mentor gave Ibispaw some status, but there was nothing else to be gained from him. He snorted as he thought of his Clan. Hawkstar was a crazy old fool, losing his touch, and none of the older cats had enough backbone to stand up against him. He spoke openly of these feeling only to Egretpaw, however she had taken to blowing off, fooled by the fantasy-Hawkstar she had built in her mind to overshadow the coward her mentor really was. Now it seemed he was truly alone.

She padded gently across the soft grass, sighing softly as the warm grass, wet with morning dew, squished beneath her small paws. Doepaw was enjoying the morning and was taking her favorite walk across the Meadow. Ever since she had started to train here, she had fallen in love with the place. It was beautiful, peaceful, and brought her away from the hustle and bustle of her life for at least a few moments. The birds always seemed to sing louder, the sun shone brighter, and the flowers smelled sweeter here. These excursions were her nirvana, her serenity and her sanity. She couldn't imagine not coming here; really, that was unthinkable.
And it wasn't as if she was going to missed while she took these walks. The only cats who seemed to truly care about her were her family and her mentor, but Doepaw could even see that he didn't even believe in her. Doepaw was a quiet, shy cat who was afraid of conflict and preferred to have a smile for everyone. Unfortunately, these traits made her weak in many cats' eyes. And when you were weak, you were an outcast.
It didn't help that public opinion of Hawkstar, her grandfather, was rapidly declining. Doepaw liked to think of herself as a type of visionary, a cat who could predict their own future based on common sense, educated guesses, and things that had happened in the past. She decided that sooner or later, a prejudice would be formed against Hawkstar's kin just for being his kin. Because that made sense.
The small, dainty calico sighed at this thought as she bent down to sniff a wildflower near Ibispaw's hideout.

Ibispaw flicked his ears as he heard Doepaw approached. He didn't really care for the calico, but he knew who she was of course. Granddaughter of Hawkstar, and daughter of his own mentor, Bearheart. He had never really spoken with her, she was too quiet and dainty for his taste. Still, his sister had often remarked that she would like to grow closer to Doepaw, Egretpaw often made the wrong friends in the toms opinion.
Still, he knew any moment now Doepaw was going to discover his hiding spot, and then it would look like he hadn't heard her coming, which he had. He couldn't even appear to be bested by another cat, even though no one else was around but the two of them. It would get around, he was sure of it.
He stood in a stacatto movement and turned his emerald eyes onto the she-cat. "Going for a walk, Doepaw?" he mewed, a cynical edge to his voice.

'Going for a walk, Doepaw?'
The she-cat in question looked up with a start and took a surprised step back, alarmed with Ibispaw's sudden appearance. The black and white tom cat in front of her was quite startling, and Doepaw only knew him by his name and what she overheard other apprentices saying about him. Apparently he was supposed to be some horrible overacheiver, terribly ambitious, and very mean and spiteful. He worked himself to death and was her father's apprentice. Oh, and he was her friend Egretpaw's sister.
She looked upon him with innocent, wide blue eyes, a smile smile coming to her lips.
"Why yes, I was indeed taking a walk. Would you like to accompany me? It's a wondefully nice day, don't you agree?"
She mewed, taking one last sniff of the wild flower before pushing herself up.
"And how are you this morning, Ibispaw?"
Doepaw asked, carefully avoiding the subject of how he had scared her. Badly.

Ibispaw resisted the urge to sneer as Doepaw took a step back in susprise. Sheesh, he had just asked if she was going for a walk! What a pansy. Still, a thought had occured in his head as his eyes rested on his fellow apprentice. Doepaw was related to Hawkstar, and it was plain as the sun that he was losing his beans. Perhaps, if he were win Doepaw to his side he could influence the leader to make certain decisions that would benefit the Clan, and more importantly, him.
"I'm quite alright," he mewed stiffly, not used to being polite or kind, "and the meadow is quite "pretty" today. I do think I'll join you on your little walk." He took a couple steps forward, expecting her to follow him, he was the dominant cat here after all. Then suddenly he realized, he was going at it all wrong. If he were to want to win the favor of little Doepaw he could not act like he disliked being with her. He had to shower her with compliments and kindness, make her feel like she was the most important thing. It would be out of character for him to act this way, but he would give it a try.
"Go ahead and lead the way, Doepaw" he mewed politely, beckoning her forward with his tail.

Doepaw smiled kindly towards him, totally unaware of what he was doing. He wanted her to go first! What a gentleman he was, thinking of what she wanted to do! Doepaw didn't know Ibispaw as well as she would like to, and even though she heard many rumors about him, she often found herself admiring him from afar. Taking a walk alone with him with the gorgeous backdrop of the meadow was going to make for a splendid afternoon! Doepaw felt her heart skip a beat as she began to pad forward through a patch of yellow-green grass and wildflowers, sighing with content as she felt the warm rays of the sun beat down upon her back.
She slowed her pace so she was padding next to Ibispaw, her gray-blue eyes wide with excitement and anxiety. This entire ordeal was so extraordinary that she didn't know what to make of it. Now she would finally get to know the oh-so mysterious Ibispaw.
"S-so Ibispaw, how is y-your training going?" She meowed after a few moments of silence. Doepaw had wanted to say "tell me about yourself", but she stopped herself at the last second because she feared the phrase would be too prying.

Ibispaw resisted the urge to smirk. How easily Doepaw was fooled by his charade. How gullible. Still, he had a part to play as long as the she-cat was ignorant. Let her think that he was a gentlemen, that walks through meadows filled him with happiness. Why not if it made her like him?
As she slowed down to walk next to him he smiled once again at her. It had done wonders the first time after all. "Trainings going well, Doepaw. Bearclaw is a great mentor!" His feelings about Bearclaw were the opposite, but he doubted that an insult to her family would win him any favors.
For a moment he thought about what he was doing. He was playing Doepaw like a game. A nagging bit of his mind told him to think of what Egretpaw would say. How awful she would think his actions were. However, that was only a tiny bit of his mind, and the rest hungered for power. Doepaw held the key for him, he was sure, and so he would win. Plus, it wasn't like he was hurting her or anything. And it wouldn't be so bad for her to end up with a cat like him. She was honestly getting quite a good deal in his mind.
"What about you Doepaw? I imagine you are doing far better. You are extremely talented!"
ooc: Ahh, Ibispaw is such a jerk! I love it!
