He meowed quietly, looking towards the flowing waters.
Starlingstorm padded through the marshy territory beside the river that flowed through MarshClan territory, feeling his paws squish into the ground with every step he took. The springtime heat was melting the snow and ice left over from leaf-bare. The territory was even more marshy than usual, but it didn't particularly bother him.
Being born and raised in MarshClan prepared a cat for the wet terrain. His paws had even taken on a webbed like quality and his fur was more able to allow water to slide off than other Clan cat's fur.
Batstream's grave was near here. The elders had buried her near the river per his request because he knew that she had loved it. She had always somehow found peace beside the flowing waters, and he hoped that in burying her here, she could find that peace again. "I'm sorry Batstream."
Starlingstorm stopped walking. The river was particularly high today, higher than usual. Sudden worry flashed in his mind, but he couldn't really put his paw on why. He looked towards DustClan territory without even really meaning to, his mind wandering to Flickerstorm. She was his mate... or ex-mate? He wasn't all that sure what was going on now, and she was pregnant with his kits.
She had told him that it was over and that it had been a mistake because they were in different Clans, but he still wanted to approach her and make sure she knew that he was not going to be separate from his kit's lives, no matter what the repercussions. He could not imagine his life without his own father, and did not want his kits to suffer by growing up without a father.
"Starlingstorm, are you alright?" A voice drifted towards him and Starlingstorm turned, his eyes alighting on a noble looking spotted tabby tom with amber eyes. He had a very long neck and legs and his head was tipped slightly to one side with curious concern.
"Oh, yes. I'm fine. Thanks, Kingletheart." Starlingstorm meowed, snapping back to the present and forcing a welcoming smile to give to the other tom, who returned it with handsome ease.
"Are you sure? You look somewhat distracted." Kingletheart asked calmly, taking a step forward to calculate the large brown tabby tom's face. His amber eyes showed some concern and worry, not masked successfully at all.
"Yeah, I was just looking at how full the river is at the moment and then I looked into DustClan territory and... doesn't it look like something out of the ordinary is going on?" He asked, scooting aside to allow Kingletheart to move into a good line of view. He knew that Kingletheart, as nobel and calm as he looked, was very loyal to Hawkstar and letting slide that he had been thinking of his mate and kits in DustClan would not be a good idea.
The tall tom padded forward and peered across the border, his ears pricking slightly. "Yes, I see what you mean." He responded, a tad of worry in his voice. "It almost looks like it's flooding... but the water can't be that high, can it?" He asked as he turned his head to look towards Starlingstorm, worry creeping into his voice.
