The Clans that the members of Somewhere in the Night role play are set in the Appalachian Mountains near the Mason-Dixon border line on the Pennsylvania side.
In other words, they live in the mountains of southern Pennsylvania.
In the spring and summer, the days and nights are warm. Humidity seems to cloud over the trees in the late summer months, however temperatures can't rise to the point where long-furred cats can come down with heatstroke.
In early autumn the temperature begins to drop, leading up to the first winter frost. In the winter months, the temperature can fall to as low as a few degrees above zero in as fast as a few days. Occasionally younger cats die of hypothermia in these months, and green cough is something medicine cats know can break out at any time. Snow can blanket the forest with inches over night without warning; freak blizzards are not much of a surprise. Prey is extremely scarce during this period and the River often freezes over.
Winter, or Leaf-bare, is not a favorite time of the clans.
The Clans are located in a deep valley that leads up to form beautiful, vegetated mountains. If one were to look down upon the valley from a bird's eye view, you would see OakClan to the northwest, MarshClan to the southwest, DustClan to the southeast, and PineClan to the northeast.
Upon one of the extremely tall southern mountains that overlooks the valley, a thunderpath sprawls on. Across this is a small cluster of Twoleg nests. Towards the north is another mountain, however this one seems to breed hostility and is smaller than its southern brother in size. Rogues and loners have settled on this mountain, rogues who are especially hostile towards Clan cats.
Near the middle of the valley a river flows and forms into a stream that cuts between the rogue and loners' mountain and a small hill. In the very center of the valley a little north of the river, there is a dusty clearing. This clearing is where Gatherings are held on every full moon.
