Why, hello there new member! I'm Rebecca, divine conquerer of Somewhere in the Night (or in other words, the main admin). I've made a special guide for all of you who are new to forums and SN, because it can be intimidating and confusing at first. But don't worry, you're not alone.
These are step-by-step suggestions about what to do after you first join our little family.
(I.) Introduce yourself on the c-box. We want to know our members. Even if you're shy, I'd recommend to at least post hello. You won't be ignored.
(II.) Read over the plot, setting, most recent update, etc. The more you know about what's going on the better off you'll be here at SN. We want our members to be informed.
(III.) Create a character This is possibly my favorite thing: characters! Forget role play and plots; they don't matter if the characters who act them out don't have any personality. To create a character go to this thread and follow the instructions. Then go to the Applicants sub-board and post you character!
(IV.) Other Notes on Your Character You gotta love 'em, because they are yours. Look to the side: you should see little pictures of cats and banners that read: MarshClan, OakClan, DustClan, and PineClan on them. Underneath the banners are the lists of she-cats and toms in each Clan. If MarshClan has ten toms and only four she-cats, I would make a she-cat and vice versa.
Name traditionally. Don't worry, if your name isn't traditional the mods will tell you.
(V.) Mods vs. Characters Yes, there is a myth that in the dead of night the four staff members (Rebecca, Pretzel, Frosty, and Dawn) turn into blood-sucking vipers known as bio mods. Supposedly these horrible.... things rip apart your bio and tell you all the mistakes you've made, and won't let you role play your character until all the mistakes are fixed! D: Unfortuantely, that myth is true. Here at SN, we encourage everyone to try their best, but we all make mistakes. In order to have an almost perfect biography for your character, the admin magically turn into bio mods and point out any errors in your application. Don't be offended and don't get upset; we're only doing this to help you.
(VI.) Get into the role play So you actually got your character by one of those blood-sucking vipers? Hey, that's great! Now it's time to get into the role play. Check the most recent update (located as an announcement on all boards) to find out what's going on in the role play. Then look for a board to join, and start to role play! It's as easy as that, m'dear.
(VII.) Get into the plot Again, read the update and see what's currently going on. Usually there may be plot positions that your character can play. Plot positions are important roles in the plot. On the updates board, you can most probably find links to threads that tell about plot positions. Anyone can play a plot positions as long as they're an active member.
(VIII.) Take some notes If you really want people to get to know you, you can create a page in the About Them section. On your page you can make a little profile about yourself and add a log concering you characters. This way, if anyone wants to know what's currently going on with your character Shrewheart, they can go to one spot and find out! Here is my profile as an example.
**Other Staff members: feel free to edit this post and add anything I might have missed.
